Sam has always loved animals, even before he found out he was a Skin-Walker. When he was four his mother gave him this great encyclopaedia of animals, complete with pictures and all sorts of interesting information. He learned how to read with that book, and has carried it around with him practically every day since he was given it. Sam’s optimistic and outgoing, liking to meet new people and make new friends. He hates lying about what he is, but he knows his sister Savannah is right in that they have to keep their Skin-Walking a secret. If people knew, then they’d be hunted, and then they’d have to move around even more than they did in the past. Sam’s never liked moving.
Parents:
Andrew Parker [father | skin-walker | deceased]
Arianna Weber [mother | human | deceased]
Siblings:
Savannah Parker [half-sister | skin-walker | nineteen]
History:
On the day Sam was born, his father died. Angered by the way his people were treated, Andrew Parker and several other Skin-Walkers staged a riot, changing into a great tiger and attacking the humans he felt were oppressing his people. He ended many lives that day before his own was taken. His wife Arianna had no idea of his intentions that day. She only knew that when she went into labour prematurely, she could not reach him. Instead Andrew’s daughter from a previous marriage, Savannah, came with her to the hospital. She was the first person to hold the new born Sam. It was a friend of Andrew’s who had escaped that day that told Arianna what happened. She was stricken. She’d known that her husband and his daughter were Skin-Walkers, but she had no idea of his extremist ideals. She left Andrew as one of the unidentified dead, worried of the fate that may come down on her children.
Sam had a happy young life. His mother and sister kept their father’s actions a secret, saying he died in a car accident. His mother and sister had hoped he wouldn’t be a skin-walker, yet they hoped in vain. One morning when he was six years old he focused on Savannah’s pet ferret Ryder feeling somehow entranced, and in the blink of an eye found himself much smaller and moving on all fours. He’d become a ferret. It was Savannah who found him. With great regret, his sister told him what they both were and who their father had really been. She made her little brother promise not to tell their mother he knew. Sam nodded and promised, quiet as the weight of what he’d just learned settle in. It would not be the last great shock he suffered in his short life.
A year after Sam discovered what he was, Arianna died. She’d had a brain aneurysm. Her death was sudden and devastating. As Savannah was eighteen, she took over Sam’s guardianship. She moved her brother to a new town shortly after, fearful of what could happen if anyone in their old neighbourhood dug too deeply into their family’s past.
