To the properly trained eye, everything about Kora screams feline predator. Sleek, lean, and athletic, her body is a well maintained machine of muscles. She’s flexible and agile, able to move with the acrobatic ease of a cat. She’s silent on her feet, a gift that years of practice has granted her. At 5’10” Kora is tall, with the long and lithe legs of a runner. With naturally tanned skin, Kora has a permanent golden glow about her. Even her eyes are cat-like and dangerous looking, those sharp olive orbs ever vigilant and wary. She’s trained hard to become as physically fit as she is, realizing she can’t always depend on her shifting to protect her.

Personality:
Kora is generous and selfless, unable to bear seeing others in distress or pain. She has an internalized sense of justice and fairness, which she tries to lives strictly by, though this sense lapses on occasion when she must put aside her morals and steal something necessary to survive. She has an incredibly short temper, a trait she’s trying hard to overcome in fear her anger will make her reckless. Recklessness is something Kora cannot abide. Her biggest fear is that she will get captured and somehow drag her family into her troubles. Because of this she avoids crowds like the plague.
Parents:
Rory Delany [adoptive father | 45 | police officer]
Helen Delany [adoptive mother | 43 | nurse]
Siblings:
Kia Delany [adoptive sister | 10 | student]
History:
When Kora was roughly one year old, she was found on the doorsteps of a hospital. With her was a note with one word scrolled across it, “Redwing”. Due to her skin toned, the nursing staff assumed it was her last name, and set it down as such in their records. Several months later she was adopted by the Delany’s, a kind and loving pair of humans who hadn’t been able to have children of their own. Deciding it would be unfair to take away the one thing her mother left her, the kept Redwing as her last name, giving her the name Kora after Helen’s grandmother and Delany so she could also have their name.
They never suspected anything unusual about their young daughter. Why would they? She was bright and friendly. She never seemed bothered by the knowledge she was adopted. The Delany’s cared so much about her… To Kora, biology didn’t matter. Rory and Helen were her parents. Even when Kia’s surprise conception occurred, Kora was only excited to have a new baby sister instead of being jealous of their true-born child.
The first fourteen years of Kora life were happy and peaceful. And then that peace was shattered when she had her first shift.
It was incredibly painful. Kora hadn’t known what was happening to her. She thought she was dying. Then suddenly she was on all fours, her clothes gone and her body covered in fur, her hands and feet replaced by paws. She’d become a cougar. Kora was horrified. This was worth than death. She was a Skin Walker, a monster of their world, hunted and despised. What was she going to do?
She thought of her parents who had always loved and supported her. She thought of her little sister Kia who looked up to her. What would they do now? Would they throw away their lives protecting her? Would they keep her locked away like some dirty secret? Or would she see hatred in their eyes when she told them? No. She couldn’t let that happen. She did the only thing she thought she could do. Kora ran away.
She emptied her bank account. There wasn’t much in it, some money from birthdays and Christmases she’d put away, a little cash from odd jobs. It wouldn’t get her far, but it was a start. She refused to take any from her parents. This was going to hurt them enough. Once those funds ran out, Kora took to stealing. She felt worse about that. Her father had impacted on her the difference between right and wrong, and it felt like a betrayal of him all over again. Yet she had to. She needed to eat.
It was easier than she thought it would be, the physical part of it anyways. She’s always been quick and agile, traits she supposed came from her Skin Walker genes. When she didn’t need supplies, she stayed mostly in forests, hunting when she could so she didn’t have to steal. She’d been in self-defence and gymnastics classes most of her life, and spent her days honing these skills. Above all, she’s tried to avoid people. Who knows when someone might recognize her?
